World Champion Shadow Pirate Doug Wright For Sale, Scafidi Done Racing

Veteran offshore racer Nick Scafidi of Nick’s Creative Marine in Riviera Beach, Fla., is hanging up his helmet and selling the assets of his world-championship-winning Super Stock race team, which means a very competitive boat in the incredibly competitive outboard-powered catamaran class is now up for grabs.

Scafidi decided it was time to sell Shadow Pirate, his 2016 Doug Wright 32-foot canopied cat, after last weekend’s 2019 Offshore Powerboat Association world championships (read the Day 1 story here and read the Day 2 recap here) in Englewood Beach, Fla. He said he officially made up his mind to call it quits after he was accused of cheating in Englewood Beach.

“I have never cheated in a race period,” said Scafidi, who has turned to Jeremy Cohen of Seabound Yachts in Clayton, N.Y., to sell the boat, which he started racing in 2017. “Racing isn’t fun anymore; I’m going to go back to having fun. Flying and fishing and focusing on making money instead of losing it, LOL! I have nothing to prove—my boat has won every possible event and title. It is a special boat that will be hard to beat for years to come.”

Powered by twin 2018 Mercury Racing 300XS engines with 35 hours and custom Mad EFI midsections, the 32-footer and all of its equipment—essentially a turnkey race team—is being sold for $385,000. According to Scafidi, the custom-rigged boat has fresh motor brackets and trims, Latham Marine custom power steering, onboard intercoms and helmets, crew radios and headsets, a lithium battery, twin Mercury Racing VesselView 7 displays, twin Garmin GPS screens, twin Racepak displays, spare lower units and four sets of custom propellers.

With owner Nick Scafidi driving and throttling, Shadow Pirate flew to a Super Stock-class victory in Cocoa Beach, Fla., the first race of the 2019 APBA Offshore Championship Series produced by OPA and Powerboat P1.

Scafidi said the boat, which has always been stored inside, sits on a Float-On trailer with stainless-steel brakes and spare hubs and tires that has never been in saltwater and that he has two Honda elite scooters to go with, plus too many spare parts to list.

He added that anyone interested in the boat, which has won several world and national championships, should contact Cohen at (718) 619-7001 or via email at [email protected]. Cohen, who brokers a variety of boats from performance boats and cruisers to center consoles and runabouts, said he was flattered when Scafidi asked him to help sell the boat.
