Originally set for June 19-21 as a weekend-long event, the Muskegon Powerboat Weekend—the first on-water happening of the 2020 season for the West Michigan Offshore group—has been scaled down to a single-day run dubbed the Muskegon “Watch Us Grow” Powerboat Rally on Saturday, June 20. The current plan is for participants to gather on Muskegon Lake at 12:30 p.m. and then run approximately 15 minutes to White Lake.
The Muskegon ‘Watch Us Grow’ Powerboat Rally is the first event of the 2020 WMO season.
Though an RSVP to West Michigan Offshore is required, participants must make their own arrangements for launch ramps, food and lodging (if necessary), according to a press release from the nonprofit organization that raises money for the Make-A-Wish program of West Michigan. More information on lodging, to-go lunch options and launching options is available on the West Michigan Offshore website.
The Muskegon Powerboat Rally has no land-based gathering stops. Participants will “lunch-aboard” their powerboats on White Lake before either returning to their points of departure or joining the fleet for “an extended run toward Grand Haven or Muskegon.
“West Michigan Offshore has re-formatted the Muskegon Powerboat Weekend to a day of boating fun, as we meet on the water and run to White Lake and spend a day of fun on the water,” wrote Roger Zuidema, the president of West Michigan Offshore, in an email to the club’s members. “The boating action will be captured by high-tech aerial video, drones, and professional photographers. Come by land and launch your boat—or come via the lake.”
