With fantastic weather and a showing of 85 registered boats—along with plenty more that came to catch a glimpse of the action—the town of Muskegon, Mich., was treated to a splendid weekend of powerboat-infused fun.

Thanks to special assistance from many West Michigan Offshore members, including Kevin Alfernik, Chris Dekker, Derek Powers, Jeff Tibbe and Roger Zuidema, the Chase Charity Powerboat Event and Muskegon Powerboat Weekend, which included the WMO Street Party, the Parade of Power and the Precision Power Offshore Poker Run, made a strong impact on the community, not just the boaters involved.
According to Zuidema, Friday evening’s WMO Street Party attracted thousands of onlookers and put offshore boats on the map locally like never before. He said the Saturday morning captains’ meeting at the Mart Dock was well-attended and set the stage for the day’s activities. The 70-mile poker went from Muskegon to White Lake to Grand Haven and back to Muskegon, and the waves very calm, which made for an ideal day for boats of all sizes and speeds.
Along with offshore V-bottoms from the likes of Active Thunder, Donzi Marine and Fountain Powerboats and several center consoles from Nor-Tech, Sunsation and more, there were quite a few fast cats, including the CK Motorsports’ Cat Can Do/American Ethanol Skater the Jaws Skater owned by Dave Wesseldyke of Wesco Racing Engines.

Zuidema said the day concluded with an after party at the Lake House with food, a live band, prizes and a 50/50 raffle. He also credited the Mart Dock— Tighe Wierengo and his staff—for being extremely accommodating throughout the weekend.
The rest of the WMO summer schedule includes the Independence Day Weekend ‘Informal’ Run (July 1) from Holland to Saugatuck, the Rock the Coast Fun Run (July 23) from Grand Haven to Holland, the Coast to Coast Run (Aug. 12-14) from Grand Haven to Port Washington, Wis., and the August Fun Run (Aug. 27).
