With five significant events happening this weekend, the next three days could be among the busiest—if not the busiest—of the 2015 high-performance boating season. That’s the good news. The bad? By the time it’s all over, there won’t be many weekends left in the go-fast boating season, one of the biggest and best in recent years.
Here’s a look at what’s ahead between today and Sunday.
SkaterFest—Led by key Skater Powerboats customer Ron Szloack, this annual Michigan-based event brings together what could be the greatest gathering of new and vintage Skater catamarans in the country. In essence, SkaterFest is a three-day celebration of the brand. According to Szolack, approximately 30 Skater catamarans will make it this, as will company founder Peter Hledin and Tony Cutsuries, his national sales manager. This is the fifth year the event has been held.

Old Hickory Fun Run—With most of its proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project and the possibility of one lucky participant leaving Tennessee with $50,000, the Tennessee Powerboat Club’s signature event is looking to have its strongest showing yet. Organizer Chad Collier, who owns a 50-foot Mystic catamaran with twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines, is expecting a great turnout for the event, which kicks officially tomorrow night with a welcome party at the Rock Bottom Brewery in Nashville. (Speedonthewater.com will provide real-time coverage from this event.)
Poker Runs America Mike Fiore Memorial Poker Run—One of two events happening this weekend to raise money for the children of Mike Fiore, the founder of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats who died last year after a high-speed powerboat accident, the New Jersey-based PRA event will undoubtedly pull a healthy share of Outerlimits customers including Pete Mazzo—one of the chief drivers in the event—from the Northeast. Dan Kleitz, the production manager of the Bristol, R.I., company and Fiore’s father, Paul, reportedly will join the group.
Performance Boat Club of Canada Mike Fiore Memorial Poker Run—That two poker runs are happening to honor Mike Fiore, and raise money for his children, are happening on the same weekend speaks volumes of his impact and reach in the high-performance powerboating community. Based in Windsor and Detroit, this joint Canadian/United States effort will include the Outerlimits faithful, including Canada’s Dave Scotto, from both sides of the border.
SBI Michigan City Offshore Race—The third event of the 2015 Super Boat International offshore racing series find a home in Michigan City, Ind., this weekend. While attrition and addition tend to happen in the moments before any offshore powerboat, the Michigan City contingment looks solid. And that’s good news for SBI, which has struggled so far this year to attract healthy fleets.
