Completed and delivered a year ago but little-seen since, two DCB Performance Boats M35 Widebody Open-Bow catamarans are coming to Desert Storm in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., the first week in May. According to Jeff Johnston of the El Cajon, Calif.-based custom high-performance powerboat company, one of the rare 35-footers should be on display at the Desert Storm Street Party on Thursday from noon to 9:30 p.m.

The second DCB M35 Widebody Open-Bow catamaran is powered by a pair of Mercury Racing 700SCi engines.

“We’ve already built two,” said Johnston. “One of our customers wanted to have an open bow area but he wanted something larger than our SD (Sport Deck) 30. So we laid up a custom reinforced M35, and then fabricated the full walk-through modification into that M35 hull. To make sure it was strong enough, we had reinforced the deck with extra carbon fiber and Kevlar.”

DCB built one model, which debuted at the 2016 Los Angeles Boat Show in February, with a pair of Mercury Racing 565 engines. The company powered another 35-footer, which was delivered at the 2016 Desert Storm event in late April, with Mercury 700SCi engines.

The under-deck areas ahead of the driver and co-pilot are essentially finished stowage spaces rather than seating spots. DCB opted not to install doors to the walk-through in open bow or cockpit, but can be done upon request.

The 565-powered cat, which retailed for approximately $465,000, tops out between 95 mph and 100 mph. The 700-powered cat, which retailed at approximately $575,000, tops out between 115 mph and 120 mph.

“We have a customer now who’s talking about doing one with (Mercury Racing) 860s, and another customer possibly going with 1100s,” said Johnston.
