Taking a quick tour down video memory lane yesterday, Miss GEICO driver Marc Granet sent us a link to digital footage captured during the 2012 Offshore Powerboat Association St. Clair River Classic in the suburbs of Detroit. The action itself is unremarkable by Miss GEICO team standards—just a canopied catamaran ripping down the waterway at more than 150 mph. But things get fun when one of the raceboat’s onboard cameras detaches from its mount and captures the action from a different perspective before it splashes down in the St. Clair River.
Think of it as drone footage, minus the drone. Think of it as a raceboat rollover, minus the rollover.

The obvious question of how the team recovered the camera to get the digital footage it recorded has an equally obvious answer: Two-and-a-half hours of Scuba diving, “about five kilometers” from where it fell off the boat.
