Veterans ‘Day On The Delta’ Set For September 11

Known for the venerable Big Cat Poker Run and up-and-coming Unleashed Poker Run, Northern California’s Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta also has been home to a smaller but equally beloved event dubbed the Veterans Day on the Delta since 2013. That happening returns this year on Saturday September 11 and will be based—as always—out of Discovery Bay Marina.

Powerboat owners who enjoy the waters of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta will host rides for veterans on September 11.

Local performance-boat enthusiast Dale Rayzor initially launched the event. The following year, Kevin Graves of Some Gave All—The Joey Graves Foundation, a coalition of Gold Star families “whose mission is is to honor the fallen, support those who fight, and serve their families,” took over the organizing rein. The late-summer outing has been on the nonprofit organization’s schedule ever since.

Open to all veterans, the event includes a morning of boating on the Delta followed by a barbecue lunch with live entertainment at the Discovery Bay Marina. The run begins promptly at 10 a.m. and returns to the marina at noon.

Registration for veterans—at no charge—and powerboat owners opened this week and closes August 31. The first 100 veterans registered will received a free T-shirt.

“It is a great way for the performance boating community to give back to those that fight for our freedoms,” said Rayzor.
