If you’re looking for a V-bottom that can reach 70 mph and beyond, Velocity Powerboats offers several models that can answer the call. And if you find one you love and purchase it, the Sanford, Fla., builder will send you and your significant other to school—as in the Tres Martin Performance Driving School—gratis. The company even will outfit you and your fellow student in a protective Lifeline jacket, again at no charge.
Capable of topping 100 mph, the first Velocity sportboat delivered to Performance Boat Center—a dealer since January with locations in Central Missouri and South Florida—is one of several models that qualify for the Tres Martin course giveaway. “We are extremely excited to offer this course to our customers allowing them to learn from professional drivers while getting them more familiar and comfortable with their new Velocity powerboat,” said Walter Braithwaite, the president of Velocity, in a press release from the company this morning. “At Velocity, we feel strongly about boating safety, so by giving our customers the best Life jacket protection, teaching the best safety practices, and how to react in certain situations, could one day help someone avoid a tragic situation.”
A marine industry veteran and former offshore powerboat racer with world champion credentials, Martin started the program 17 years ago. He and fellow instructor Brad Schoenwald teach the two-day courses, which include classroom and on-the-water instruction, at well-known waterways around the country.
High-performance powerboat owners who complete the Tres Martin course are eligible for insurance-rate discounts.
“We are very excited to work with (Velocity company owner/president) Scott McCormick and his team,” Martin said in the release. “We are looking forward to working with them and their customers, teaching them the skills needed to properly and safely operate a performance boat.”
Velocity Powerboats also is offering this course and Lifeline jackets to previous customers at a discounted price.
Based in Osage Beach, Mo., with a location in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Performance Boat Center became a Velocity dealer in January. Said Brett Manire, who co-owns Performance Boat Center with Mark Waddington, “I think it’s super cool that Velocity cares about its customers and end-users. And it makes all the sales guys feel comfortable selling their products.”
