U.K.-Based Team To Pursue British Isles Endurance Record

Backed by United Kingdom-based Mercury Marine outboard engine distributor E.P. Barrus Ltd., the SUNUS Ocean Racing team of driver/throttleman Tom Montgomery-Swan, navigator Michal Galczewski, British television personality/adventurer Ben Fogle and Barrus marine general manager Ben Allen will attempt to break the 2,000-nautical-mile British Isles circumnavigation record this summer, according to a press release from the team. The team will use a Spectre Boats International C237 V-bottom powered by twin Mercury Racing 400R outboards in the attempt.

A four-man team will attempt to pilot this Mercury Racing Verado 400R-powered 32-footer to a new British Isles circumnavigation record.

The current British Isles circumnavigation record stands at 73 hours, according to the release. The SUNUS Ocean Racing team plans to average more than 45 mph nonstop in the 32-footer and complete the circumnavigation in 60 hours.

According to the release, “The SOR team uses marine motorsport as a platform to raise awareness and funding for Stillbirth. Both Tom Montgomery-Swan and Ben Fogle have suffered the loss of a child born still at full term and plan to use their latest challenge to draw national spotlight on their awareness campaign with a viewpoint of raising funds for the associated charities and helping to break the silence on this taboo subject.”

The SOR team currently holds the “Club Class Unlimited speed record” of 93.01 mph and the Marathon record of 89.6 mph, according to the release. Fans can follow the team through its website, Facebook page and Instagram and Twitter accounts.
