Torrente and Qatar Team Prepare for Grand Prix of China

Hoping to change the luck he’s had throughout the first half of the 2012 Union Internationale Motonautique F1H2O World Championship season, Qatar Team driver and Miami native Shaun Torrente is in Liuzhou, China, preparing for the Grand Prix of China, which is set for Oct. 1-2.

Shaun Torrente arrived in China today to prepare for the F1H2O World Championship's 18th Grand Prix of China in Liuzhou.

Shaun Torrente arrived in China today to prepare for the F1H2O World Championship’s 18th Grand Prix of China in Liuzhou.

Torrente, who has been lightning quick in qualifying in the last two Grand Prix events, earning the pole in Kazan, Russia, and starting second at the last event in Kiev, Ukraine, is hoping he and his crew can battle back from technical issues at the event, which is 12 time zones away from Florida.

“We are working hard to improve reliability, and the Qatar Team along with Peters & May Racing are committed to being world champions,” Torrente said. “The season is not over yet.”

Torrente’s teammate and defending world champion Alex Carella won the event last year and is looking to repeat next week at the 18th Grand Prix of China. Taking place in Liuzhou, located on the banks of the winding Liu River in the Guangxi Region in the southern part of the country, the event returns to the city for the fifth time since its first event in 2008.

You can watch the event “live” on the www.f1h2o.com website at 3 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. And for more on the F1 H2O’s racing history in the Far East, click here.
