Though it doesn’t get the headlines of Lake Havasu—its closest Colorado River-fed neighbor to the north—Arizona’s Parker Strip remains an aquatic hot spot for the West Coast go-fast boating scene. Formally named Lake Moovalya, the 10-mile-long, scenic waterway was home to the western leg of Powerboat magazine’s famed annual Performance Trials for more than two decades. And this Friday, it will host the third annual Wozencraft Insurance Agency Customer Appreciation Day.

More than a little familiar with the Parker Strip, Devin Wozencraft, the owner of the Southern California-based outfit specializing in high-performance powerboat insurance, chose Fox’s Floating Bar as the host venue for the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We chose to hold our event at Fox’s Floating Bar, which is really cool as the place is literally floating right on the Colorado River,” said Wozencraft. “Fox’s has become one of the most well-known hangouts on the famed Parker Strip and dates back to its opening in 1949. Plus, since the river isn’t too wide the floating bar is a perfect location to watch all the different varieties of ‘River Rat’ boats as they showboat past the bar, plus many water skiers wakeboarders.”
Wozencraft said the event has grown every year. He’s expecting his biggest turnout to date this time around.
“Our first year was pretty funny,” he said. “It really started with us just inviting a select group of our clients—or in reality anyone who would show up. Our good friend and master helicopter pilot friend Fred Young helped us get an R44 heo and we ended up taking lots of cool shots on the river along with our friends Tom Leigh, an excellent photographer, and videographer Carter Bahde.”

The event will include complimentary lunch and refreshments served from noon to 3 p.m.
“Come by water or by road—either way we’d like to see you there,” said Wozencraft. “This year we will have special guest Alexi Sahagian of BoostPower USA. He’ll be on hand to offer technical tips and answer questions, as well as inspect boats that show up and offer suggestions. This will be a great time to pick his brain.”
