A few weeks back a couple of speedonthewater.com team members—Shoot 2 Thrill Pix’s Pete Boden and Scrapyard Media’s Brad DiMaggio—were invited to join longtime performance boat enthusiast Tom Borisch on his favorite lake in Northern Michigan for the annual Walloon Woodies gathering that’s been taking place on Walloon Lake since 2013.

Both Boden and DiMaggio had a lot of fun shooting stills and video of the event that attracted a wide range of wooden boat models from various eras. Borisch, who is an avid collector of wooden boats thanks to his fondness for the boats he’s admired since he was a kid, has several historic boats that he keeps at his summer home on the lake.
Along with covering the early-August event that included boats from Chris Craft, Hacker Craft, Gar Wood, Riva and more, Boden and DiMaggio convinced Borisch to not just run his unique boats for individual footage but to spend some time describing them for a video that DiMaggio edited and is now live on the speedonthewater.com YouTube page.
Of course the pictures and videos are cool enough on their own, but to have Borisch explain the history behind some of his boats is extremely cool.
Borisch, who hopes to one day pass his boats on to his children, said he had a great time at the event, which included an on-land classic car show along with the wooden boat show at the docks of Tommy’s Marina in front of Barrel Back Restaurant and Hotel Walloon, all of which are owned by the Borisch family.
