After many years of participating in the Desert Storm Poker Run Shootout in Arizona as well as traveling to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Missouri a couple of times, the husband-and-wife team behind Swoop Motorsports, Travis and Summer Richardson, is putting together a new event coming to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., next spring—the Swoop Motorsports Shootout.

The news follows up last week’s announcement from Swoop Motorsports that it was teaming with River Whips to host the inaugural Rock the Docks event at the Nautical Beachfront Resort in Lake Havasu City on October 20-21 (read the story). That event, according to Travis Richardson, has been extremely well received with many sponsors and participants already committing to it.
Scheduled for April 5-8 in conjunction with the Lake Havasu Boat Show, the Swoop Motorsports Shootout is going to feature a 3/4-mile course on Thompson Bay, which will allow for on-land spectators on either side, and a newer laser technology rather than the standard radar guns to record top speed.
“Shootout participants work so hard and spend so much money just to get there that they deserve an accurate reading not one from a $300 radar gun,” Richardson explained. “We plan to implement all of the things we like about top-speed shootouts and then some. We’re going big with this event. It’s been our pipe dream for some time and we’re actually making it happen. We’re so excited about the Shootout and Rock the Docks. We’ve got our hands full but that’s a good thing.”
Richardson said the Swoop Motorsports Shootout is scheduled for Friday and Saturday with Sunday planned as a back-up day in case of any bad weather. He also said more details are going to be release over the next few months—for now it’s just time to save the date.
