Still Time to Sign Up for Monster Storm

Between next weekend’s Monster Storm Poker Run and the accompanying 10th annual River Dave’s Place Regatta, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and the Nautical Beachfront Resort are going to be busy hosting about 100 boats (or more depending on late registration, which is still open for both events).

Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14, the Monster Storm Poker Run is set to host 50-plus boats and includes a lunch run to Havasu Springs on Friday followed by a pool party and concert in the cove that evening. Saturday’s five-stop poker run includes a helicopter photo shoot in the morning and an afternoon photo station at the London Bridge to capture holiday photos (Santa hats available). The event concludes with the card turn-in party, a costume bash dinner and a Monster/RDP closing party.

“We are looking forward to the Monster Storm Poker Run—this time of year the weather in Lake Havasu is perfect boating weather,” said Jimmy Nichols, whose company, Phantom Productions, which he owns with his girlfriend, Christina Crane, took over the event and the annual Desert Storm Poker Run from his father, Jim, a few months ago (read the story). “We are fortunate to live in a state that year-round boating is possible.”

While sponsorship is a little below normal for the Fall event, according to Crane, she said event registration should be right about average by the end of next week.

“Jimmy and I feel we need to show that we are making changes,” Crane said. “We are listening to the participants and sponsors and we hope this event proves that we are bringing back the boating-centered experience for all of us to collectively enjoy.”

Crane added that the current registration price is $400, which includes two people, two shirts, two poker hands and two all-access wristbands for event parties, dinners and gatherings. Of course additional crew tickets and poker hands can be purchased. Crane recommends that people don’t wait to sign up as they will sell out of event swag and wristbands. She also said for people to keep in touch via the Monster Storm Poker Run Facebook and Instagram pages.
