High-performance powerboat owners aren’t the only ones ready to shake off the 2020 event-cancellation blues and flock to poker runs, fun runs and more this season. Pent-up demand also exists among event sponsors, as Ingrid Day, the event coordinator for the Boyne Thunder Poker Run, set for July 10-12, and based out of Boyne City, Mich., can attest.
Though participant registration is more than a month away, sponsor sign-ups are already impressive for the 2021 Boyne Thunder Poker Run in July. Photo from the 2017 Boyne Thunder Poker Run by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.
Sponsor registration opened December 1. So far, Day and company have signed up 33 sponsors—several of them new—to the tune of $124,500.
“We’re also in conversations with five more (sponsors),” she said. “Things are going really well.”
For would-be sponsors who want to bring a boat, registration will remain open until mid-February. (Off-water sponsorship opportunities will continue to be offered for several months.) General registration for participants, which is limited to 120 entries, will open March 1 at 9 a.m.
“We can’t wait,” said Day. “We’re also keeping our fingers crossed that society becomes healthy enough for us to hold this special event. We’re doing everything we can.”
