For the past few years, creating an annual “master” calendar of go-fast boating events from poker runs to offshore races on Speedonthewater.com has been on our wish list. But other more-pressing website-improvement tasks, including revamping the entire site and switching content management systems in 2020, kept our calendar project on the back-burner.

We’re delighted to announce—with a round of applause for our longtime webmaster David McCreary who found and installed a great calendar plug-in—that during the holidays we finally got the job done. Our 2021 Events Calendar went live this morning.
Make that mostly done as a number of 2021 events have not announced dates, which is nothing unusual given that we just entered the new year a few days ago, and other we’re still tracking down complete information. As organizers announce their dates, we will continue to add them to the calendar. To that end, we’re encouraging event producers to reach out via email once they’ve set their dates. (On our end, adding them to the calendar is easy.)
Of course, we will continue to reach out to event organizers directly. And we’ll also continue to tweak and improve our calendar format.
At present, events are divided into seven categories: Fun Run, Owners Run, Poker Run, Race, Regatta, Rendezvous and Shootout. Located under the Resources pull-down on the far right of the site’s top navigation bar, the 2021 calendar can be searched by name as well as event type, and viewed by Month, Week, Photo, Day and Map.
Here’s to a fine New Year and what we all hope will be a less-challenging event season than that of 2020. We look forward to your feedback.
