By the time we started speedonthewater.com in 2009, the Boyne Thunder Poker Run had been up and running for five years. Of course, like the daily high-performance powerboating news website the Northern Michigan event wasn’t anything close to what it is today. We’ve had the privilege of not just covering the family friendly event, but the satisfaction of watching it grow and succeed for all the right reasons, raising money the Challenge Mountain and Camp Quality-Michigan children’s charities chief among them.
The rich past, present and future of the Boyne Thunder Poker Run will be captured in the program/magazine commemorating the 20th annual event. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.
And now we have another Boyne Thunder honor ahead of us, producing a commemorative “program” for the 20th annual event, which is set for July 7-8. The 100-page, photo-rich oversized program—think Speed On The Water Year In Review magazine dimensions—will celebrate the past, present and future of a happening we once suggested could be “the world’s best poker run.”
So how can you get your hands on the collectible program and what’s it going to cost you?
Just head for the Boyne Thunder Poker Run and pick up one. They’ll be all over Boyne City that week. And they’ll be free.
We will print 2,000 issues. All of them will be distributed at the event, from the Thursday night’s welcome party at Boyne Mountain Resort to Saturday night’s post-run celebration at Boyne City Municipal Marina, where Speed On The Water also is footing the bill for the live band.
Raise your hands if you want a 20th anniversary Boyne Thunder Poker Run commemorative program.
We also will donate a portion of the proceeds from the advertising-supported publication to the aforementioned Boyne Thunder charities.
“For our 20th year of Boyne Thunder, we are excited to offer our participants and community a number of new events and opportunities,” said Ingrid Day, the events coordinator for the Boyne Thunder Poker Run. “We are pleased to be supported by Speed on The Water, which will be producing a one-of-a-kind special edition program celebrating the fun, the generosity and sheer beauty of our event.”
This year’s Boyne Thunder Poker Run sold out within an hour of opening registration.
But, once again, the only way to get one is to be there. We’ll take home a few as keepsakes, but that’s it—they won’t be sold on in the speedonthewater.com store. If you want one, you need to head for Boyne City in early July and pick up a copy.
