Speed On The Water Launches GoFundMe Campaign For Samuel’s House

Since 2013, speedonthewater.com has thrown an early November party in Key West, Fla., to thank its supporters. Without readers and advertisers we do not exist, and we figured the least we could was throw a little thank-you bash during the annual season-ending Key West offshore powerboat races and Florida Powerboat Club Poker Run to the city at the end of the road.

What started as a 30-person gathering at a hamburger joint on Duval Street has evolved. Last year, the event attracted an estimated 3,000 people to the Sandbar Sports Grill and the closed street—decorated with the first MTI 390X sport catamaran—in front of the gracious venue.

But why stop at thanking readers and advertisers? Why not find a way to thank Key West, which is mecca in the world we cover? And thanks to Yvonne Aleman, the beyond-capable partner of offshoreonly.com moderator Greg Harris, we found Samuel’s House.

Our first year of fundraising—all through a silent auction—raised $6,200 for the nonprofit organization, which provides shelter for women and intact families in a safe and sober setting. Last year, though a live auction led by the unforgettable Nolan Ferris, we raised $42,500 thanks to your generosity.

Like many of you, we won’t be in Key West this month. But that doesn’t mean the giving has to stop, which is why we’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign, with a $50,000 fundraising goal for Samuel’s House. That also why we’re donating 50 percent of the profits from all apparel sales in November to the charity.

Why $50,000? Because we need to top last year. And this year’s absence is no excuse. Samuel’s House needs us. And you.

Let’s do this thing.
