With business showing no signs of slowing down, Randy Scism, owner and founder of Marine Technology Inc., in Wentzville, Mo., didn’t wait long to hire a replacement for Tim Gallagher, MTI’s longtime director of sales and marketing. Taking over for Gallagher, is industry veteran Terry Sobo.

A native of Missouri, Sobo began his career with Black Thunder Powerboats and enjoyed a lengthy 18-year stint with Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats before joining Deep Impact Custom Boats and Blackwater Boats in early 2017. The new director of sales and marketing for MTI is thrilled to be joining the company.
“MTI is a stable, successful business—and Randy and I share a lot of similar philosophies when it comes to work ethic, customer service and life, in general,” Sobo said. “I’m super excited about working with MTI. The company’s products are amazing. I’m especially fond of the outboard-powered lineup of center consoles and cats MTI has created.”
Sobo said he plans to work from his home on Florida’s West Coast, out of MTI’s Miami-based customer support center and travel to Missouri one week every month. His first gig with the company starts today as he’s in Missouri for the Lake Race on Lake of the Ozarks—MTI’s “hometown” lake and one Sobo has boated on for most of his life.
“I’m looking forward to spending more time in Missouri with everyone at MTI,” said Sobo, who is pictured at right with his wife, Chrissy. “The team is made up of good, quality people. And the best part is that, for a company based in Missouri, MTI does an overwhelming amount of business down here in Florida.”
Scism can’t wait to see how Sobo fits in.
“We’re excited to have Terry on board—he brings an enormous level of experience to the table and a big following of customers,” said Scism, who also shared the news that MTI’s customer support center in Miami is moving to the impressive Haulover Marine Center as of this weekend. “He came highly recommended. I talked with several of our current customers who have done business with him before and everyone had nothing but good things to say about him. I believe he’s going to be a great asset for the company.
“We’re breaking him in this weekend right here at Lake of the Ozarks,” Scism laughed. “It’s a perfect way to start his familiarization with the MTI brand.”
