No one in today’s Key Island Runners Key West Poker Run is likely to depart the event—even if that person has the best poker hand—happier than Rey Marino. That’s because Marino, the Miami-based owner of Hellkats Powerboats, is debuting his company’s new 32-foot catamaran in the run.
The first complete 32-foot Hellkats Powerboats catamaran will tackle the waters around Key West, Fla., today as part of the Keys Island Runners Fun Run fleet.
And though the event is just getting started, Marino is already delighted.
“I am more than happy with her,” he wrote via text message this morning. “I worked 39 hours straight to get her ready, and here we are.
“I don’t have words to explain how happy I am,” he added.
Powered by twin Mercury Racing 300R outboard engines, the 32-footer has just an hour or two of actual running time, according to Marino. So today’s poker run won’t just provide a showcase for the catamaran. It will be a test session of sorts.

“Yesterday was my first day on the water and we already went past 100 mph,” said Marino. “Now I have start testing and tuning.”
Said Marino of his new creation, “I am more than happy with her.”
