Sneak Peek: Fair Chase Skater 368 Almost Captured

Having followed the build of Steve Ahrenberg’s Skater Powerboats 368 catamaran called Fair Chase for a full year—we started in March 2020—we were looking forward to its Desert Storm Poker Run debut this month in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Right now, however, the twin Mercury Racing 700 SCi engine-powered cat’s Desert Storm arrival is questionable according the Peoria, Ariz.-based owner.

On a shop-trailer for transportation to a test session yesterday in Douglas, Mich., the Fair Chase Skater 368 is a jaw-dropping creation.

“I’m still not sure the trailer is going to be ready,” said Ahrenberg. “I’m fifty-fifty that I’ll make Desert Storm.

“I knew it would be close,” he added. “I’m not going to get bummed about it.”

Given his satisfaction with the finished product, Ahrenberg’s positive attitude—despite his doubts for a Lake Havasu unveiling—isn’t hard to understand.

“The boat far exceeds my expectations,” he said. “It’s surreal that it’s mine.”
