Skater Powerboats Reports Upturn In Larger Model Orders

The ongoing surge in outboard engine-powered sport catamaran sales continues to lead orders at Skater Powerboats in Douglas, Mich., but according to Tony Cutsuries, the company’s national sales manager, larger stern-drive-powered models sales have picked up as of late. The company currently has several big catamarans from 38 to 46 feet in production.

“We’re building a lot of big boats,” said Cutsuries. “We have a new 388 and a new 46 in production. And we’re building another 438. The big boats have definitely picked up for up for us.”

Work on the company’s first 36-footer powered by twin 400-hp Mercury Racing Verado outboards continues, according to Cutsuries, as does work on a steady flow of like-powered Skater 318 catamarans. To keep up with demand, the company recently added staff.

Outboard-powered sport cats such as Ron Szolack’s 318 are still hot at Skater.

“We hired more people,” said Cutsuries. “We definitely needed to. It’s going really well. Business is good.”
