Second-Year Sun Run At 100-Plus Boats—With Five Months To Go

Though the 2022 Sunsation Powerboats Sun Run on Michigan’s Lake St. Clair attracted almost 90 loyal Sunsation center console and sportboat owners, it took a while to get there. That made perfect sense as the Algonac, Mich.-based company hadn’t produced an exclusive event for its devoted customers in more than a decade. Despite an ugly weather forecast that could have kept them away last year, the Sunsation faithful rose to the occasion in such a positive way that making it a “one and done” affair was out of the question.

A purely joyful event for brand-loyal owners and their guests, the second-year Sunsation Sun Run already has more than 100 boats signed up. Photos by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Validating the Sunsation team’s decision to bring back the event, scheduled for August 3-5 this year, registration already has eclipsed last year’s mark and is still open.

“Surpassing 100 boats registered for the Sun Run within two weeks of opening registration has been downright exciting,” said Ryan Wenk, the company’s national sales and marketing manager. “Customers from throughout the country are planning summer vacations around this event, so we decided to add an additional event to the itinerary. To complement our Thursday night street party in New Baltimore and the Sun Run on Friday, we’re inviting all customers to join the team from the factory for a ‘recovery raft-off’ on Saturday.”

In addition to having a still photographer in the air for the Friday trek, Sunsation will produce a video capturing the event.

But Wenk and company are thinking even bigger this time around.

“Because we know there is a local Donzi run being produced by American Custom Marine that same weekend, we’ve opened the raft-up portion of the Sunsation Sun Run to performance boats of all kind for a relaxing day on the bay,” he said.

If the Sunsation Sun Run keeps growing, it could end up being the largest organized go-fast boating event in Michigan this year.
