Second Outerlimits SV50 in Lamination

Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats has begun laying up its second SV50, a low-profile sit-down 50-footer. The first hull is out of the molds and waiting for the completion of the deck tooling, according to Mike Fiore, the founder and owner of the Bristol, R.I., custom high-performance boat company.

“We’re just waiting on the deck plug—it should be done in about a week,” said Fiore.

Both SV50 models have been purchased by existing Outerlimits customers and will be powered by Mercury Racing 1350 engines. The lower profile of the deck design accounts for the reduction in overall length of the new model, which is based on the 52 SL stepped hull.

“We expect the 50 to be faster than the 52,” said Fiore. “The new deck definitely will provide some aerodynamic benefits, and the boat will be a little lighter. We’re going to use a chemical bonding process to marry together the hull and deck. It’s the same process we used on the SV29.”

The first public is unveiling of the SV50 is scheduled for the 2013 Miami International Boat Show.
