Despite that the Unlimited-class Miss GEICO offshore racing departed the 2016 Super Boat International World Championships with little more than a damaged 44-foot catamaran after another season of frustration, throttleman Scott Begovich and driver Marc Granet came away with fresh appreciation for their place in the sport thanks to a group of young fans. And that’s the subject of the latest one-minute teaser video for the upcoming three-part NBC Sports television program on the 2016 SBI Worlds produced, as are the full-length episodes of the show, by JM Associates.

“When I grew up, I grew up in a town that the biggest race of the year came to town and I was one of those kids,” says Begovich, surrounded by a small herd of hollering young fans wearing Miss GEICO T-shirts, in opening of the video. “That’s how I fell in love with the sport. I was washing raceboats and I was trying to ride on the parade and things like that. If you put an impression on them at that age, they’ll be fans forever and hopefully grow up to be the future of the sport.”

Later in the video, Granet reflects on seeing enthusiastic youngsters in Miss GEICO gear.

“That kind of gave me some perspective that we are so lucky to be able to go out and race the most powerful boats in the world in front of a great crowd,” he said. “How lucky are we? I mean, how lucky are we? You would look at this if you saw it on TV, ‘Oh my god are they for real? They’re racing in a tropical paradise in 4,000-hp raceboats over beautiful water with crowds cheering.’”

The video finishes with spectacular high-resolution, super-slow-motion footage of Miss GEICO roaring across the water.
