SBI Reshuffles The Superboat Unlimited Deck With Penalties

In Friday’s Super Boat International Superboat Unlimited-class contest at the offshore racing producer’s annual World Championships in Key West, Fla., it appeared that the Victory No. 33 and No. 3 team finished in first and second place. Hosed down at the start and unable to complete the first lap, Wake Effects team owner Rusty Rahm believed that most of his fellow Unlimited-class competitors had jumped the start and filed a grievance with SBI officials.

Speedonthewater.com just received word from Rahm, the owner and drive of the 48-foot Wake Effects MTI catamaran, that his protest has been upheld.

Here’s what that means: Both Victory teams, Huski Chocolate and Zabo Racing received penalties in yesterday’s race. That puts CRC Sunlight Supply in first place, Victory No. 33 in second place, Lucas Oil/SilverHook in third, Wake Effects in fourth place and Victory No. 3 in fifth place  in the current standings based on the first two races of the week.

Although official results have not been posted on the SBI website, to take home a world title, Wake Effects needs to win in tomorrow’s double points contest.

“If we win tomorrow we’ll win our second world championship,” Rahm said. “We’re ready to go and hope to put on good show for the fans.”
