Proving that racing sponsorships can come from almost any corner—and even the unusual—Saris Racing, which competes in the Offshore Powerboat Association’s Class 400 Saris Racing has snagged four new sponsors for the 2015l. Two of them are the racing team’s Lake George, N.Y., backyard, according to driver Johnny Saris, who man’s the team’s 30-foot V-bottom with his father, Jason, handling the throttles. The duo earned the OPA World Championship in their class last year.
“There’s a restaurant in the Lake George called the Marketplace Steakhouse and More that’s been there forever—I think they’ve had three or four owners, including the most recent one,” said the younger Saris. “There’s a big auction here every year that supports the local library, and we auction off a ride in the raceboat. It’s gone for $2,000, $3,000 a few times. Anyway, the owner of the restaurant bought ride and got a huge kick out of it. Ever since then, he’s wanted to be involved. So now he’s on board for a full year and we got him a sticker from Kinetic Animation.
Also new—and local to the Saris Racing sponsor group—is the Fireplace Company, a business that supplies fireplaces in the Lake George area. In addition to local support, Saris Racing has snagged season-long support from two New Jersey-based companies, Classic Towing and D’Agostino Funeral Homes. The team also is continuing what Saris called its “mechanical partnerships” with BBlades Propellers and Drive Guardian.
“BBlades still provides all of our propellers—they do great work,” he said. :Drive Guardian has been fantastic for us. And Lookers Embroidery is still our apparel sponsor.”
