Rock The Coast Poker Run On Tap This Weekend

Outside of the Lake Of The Ozarks in Central Missouri, which will host Big Thunder Marine’s Baja, Fountain and Donzi Fun Run and the Performance Boat Center Outboard Fun Run tomorrow and the Swift and Co. Realty-backed “Make Party Cove Great Again” raft-up on Saturday, the organized, all-inclusive event schedule is mostly quiet around the country this weekend. The exception to this the is Rock The Coast Poker Run on Lake Michigan, the third of five events on the 2023 West Michigan Offshore schedule.

So far, 65 owners have registered their boats for the run. Registration is still open.

“We are anticipating 70 boats with the forecast looking favorable for Lake Michigan on Saturday,” Scott Otterbein, the president of West Michigan Offshore.

The event begins tomorrow with Shields of Hope-West Michigan Kids/Warrior powerboat rides and the Keith Holmes Memorial Fun Run. The Saturday poker run kicks off at 12:30 p.m. out of Grand Haven with four stops before returning to Grand Haven for a dinner celebration and awards. The banquet ends at 8 p.m., after which most participants head to downtown Grand Haven to keep the celebration rolling.

For 42-foot Fountain Powerboats V-bottom owner Justin Snook of Snook’s Quality Collision, a  body shop in Mancelona, Mich., and one of the event’s sponsors, this will be his fifth Rock The Coast experience.

“Usually, there are north-northwest winds at this one and sometimes that means Lake Michigan can give us some fun, rough water,” he said. “And the downtown nightlife in Grand Haven is fun.”

High-performance marine industry sponsors include American Custom Marine, Bio-Kleen, Chief Offshore and CK Performance Marine. The event on the West Michigan Offshore is the Gold Coast Summer Blast, August 11-2, in Holland.

Said Michael Knoblock of American Custom Marine, a Kimball-based Nor-Tech dealer, “It’s a fine venue with cool stops, plus Lake Michigan is always great. And Shields of Hope charity is excellent for helping kids.”
