Registration for the Pirates of Lanier Charity Poker Run—to date the world’s largest poker run—opened last night at midnight. Supported again by primary sponsor Reliable Heating & Air, the event (July 16-18) on Georgia’s Lake Lanier attracted 301 boats in 2014 and raised more than $400,000 for local charities. Since its inception, the run has raised more than $1 million for charities in the area.
With registration open, Pirates of Lanier Charity Poker Run organizers are expecting another big turnout of enthusiastic participants.
Sign-ups for the event, as well as for dock space and lodging, can be handled directly through the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run website.
“The site is working great,” said Greg Harris, a longtime participant in the event who lives in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “I booked the entry for our group, slip and room in the less than 10 minutes.”
Nine boats have been registered so far, including the well-known Windship 48-foot MTI catamaran, and Dig It, a 48-foot Fountain owned by Beau Renfroe, who is one of the key organizers for the event this year. (A continually updated registration list is available via the “Who Is Coming” pull-down under the “2015 Event” tab at the top of the website.) While the large-capacity event is not likely to sell out, the organizers are encouraging participants to register as early as possible for the run.
