Retired offshore racing world champion Stuart Hayim, New York Jets wide receiver Bart Scott and National Football League free agent Plaxico Burress were among the 200 guests last night at the Ferrari Maserati of Long Island (New York) showroom for the “Finish Line” fundraiser hosted by Hayim, who owns the exotic automobile dealership. The event not only celebrated the Around Long Island record Hayim set driving a 42-foot Marine Technology, Inc., catamaran with John Tomlinson on the throttles, it raised an additional $35,000 for Hayim’s closely held charity, the Don Monti Memorial Cancer Research Foundation.
Hayim and his guests raised $35,000 for cancer research at his exotic car dealership in Long Island, New York.
During the run itself, Hayim brought in $30,000 for the charity. Between the record-setting run and last night’s celebration, Hayim raised $65,000 for the foundation—a cause to which Hayim, a cancer survivor donated all his winnings to during his 10-plus-year offshore racing career.
“The Monti family and all the people there poo-poo what they do, but I wouldn’t be here without them,” Hayim said in an earlier article that appeared on speedonthewater.com.
