Firming up its offshore powerboat-racing schedule for its inaugural season, Race World Offshore has announced that it has inked an event set for July 20-22 dubbed the Mentor Offshore Grand Prix presented by Cleveland Construction on Lake Erie in Ohio. The news was announced today in a press release from the Key West, Fla.-based organization.

“We’re excited about joining Race World Offshore as the official sanctioning body for our event this year,” said Mark Small, the principal of Cleveland Construction. “(RWO president) Larry Bleil and his team of seasoned offshore veterans bring a whole new vision to the sport with national television coverage of the Mentor race that will once again present professional offshore racing as ‘The Greatest Show on The Water.’”
For the past two years, the Mentor event has run under the Super Boat International umbrella. The tentative Ohio race date has been removed from the original SBI 2018 schedule.
“My family is originally from Lake County and I spent many summers with my grandparents in Mentor growing up,” said Bleil, the former president of the Conch Republic Offshore Powerboat Association, in the release. “The opportunity to support the city and the surrounding area through our race is a special privilege for me.”
