Race World Offshore Features $100,000 Purse For Inaugural Event

Teams in the first Race World Offshore LLC event—dubbed Roar At The Shore—July 20-22 in Mentor, Ohio, will be vying for a total cash purse of $100,000, according to a press release from the Key West, Fla.-based organization. According to the release, Each team will walk away with a minimum of $1,000 dollars in prize money, and the top five positions in each class will receive “substantial checks relative to their podium positions.”

For the third year in a row, offshore powerboat racers will take to the waters of Lake Erie off Mentor, Ohio.

“We have been working very hard to bring the sport of offshore powerboat racing to the professional level of other mainstream motorsports,” said Larry Bleil, the founder and president of Race World Offshore, in the release. “Our mission is to create events that benefit the racers, excite the fans grow the popularity and exposure of the sport. We’re encouraged that our efforts will provide additional incentives for racers to return to Mentor and put on a show that fans will remember.

“Additionally, we’ll be adding a block party in downtown Willoughby where the teams will display their equipment, sign autographs and interact with the hundreds of fans expected to be in attendance,” he continued. “RWO will also be providing national television coverage of the weekend activities on the CBS Sports Channel.”

The organization also has appointed Dr. Michael “Doc” Janssen as its medical director. A former offshore racer, Janssen is a board-certified surgeon and medical practitioner, as well as a PADI Scuba Dive Instructor.

“I am honored to be offered the opportunity to work with the RWO team,” said Janssen, in the release. “They have given me the autonomy to ensure they we have the best safety and rescue practices in place and a highly experienced rescue team that is second to none. The fact that they are motivated to do the best they can to create a sanctioning body that cares for its racers, shows me they mean business and I am very excited to be on board with this terrific organization.”
