Raabe Memorial Fundraiser Set

A fundraising event for David Raabe, the 38-year-old offshore powerboat racer of the Repeat Offender team who died in a tragic accident during the Offshore Powerboat Association Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., in May is set for Aug. 17, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Captain’s Inn Tiki Bar in Forked Beach, N.J. Proceeds from event will go the Raabe family, who is survived by his wife, Leigh, and their three children Alexis, David, Jr., and Landon, according to organizer Melissa Przemielewski.

The event will include a buffet dinner. Tickets for the dinner cost $25 and can be purchased through the David Raabe Memorial website. (Dinner tickets are not required for attendance.) A Facebook events page also has been set up for the memorial.

Przemielewski has set up a PayPal account where donations to the family can be made. Donations by check also are being accepted, and those payments can be made to: The Raabe Family, P.O. Box 1044 Forked River, N.J. 08731.

In addition to direct donations, participants can sign up as four-, six- eight-person table sponsors. With respective sponsorship fees of $500, $1,500 and $2,500, sponsorships include dinner, event T-shirts and more. (Table sponsorship opportunities are in limited supply of 10 four-person tables, six six-person tables and two eight-person tables.)

Przemielewski is still accepting items and “baskets” for the event’s silent auction, the proceeds of which also will go to the Raabe family.

“We will have a designated area for anyone who would like to put their raceboats on display,” she said. “If anyone wants to come by boat, we will have slips available. They can reserve a slip in advance if they go on the website and give a $20 donation along with a description of their boat.

“We also have an event T-shirt being created with both of his David Raabe’s boats on it,” she continued. “Sponsors names or logos will be on the shirts, and they will be available for purchase during the event.”

Additional information on the David Raabe Memorial is avaiable on the event’s website. Przemielewski also can be contacted directly at (732) 620-7287.
