Heading into its seventh year, the Arcuri for Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Scuba—known as SUDS—Fundraiser is set for Saturday, Sept. 9 in Brick, N.J. Among the traditional activities of the day, which includes lunch, dinner and live entertainment, are powerboat rides for wounded veterans who participate in the SUDS program, which “gives permanently disabled service members the opportunity to try a challenging and rewarding activity that can help facilitate the rehabilitation process and be an activity that they can enjoy for years to come,” according to the nonprofit organization’s website.

With the event roughly a week away, organizer Nick Acuri and his team of Ray Malaspina and Dave Magliaro currently are looking for powerboat owners interested in giving rides to SUDS program veterans during the day. Vessels of all kinds are welcome.
“They still need more boats—and for a lot of these veterans the boat rides are the highlight of the day,” said Tim Sharkey, a veteran high-performance powerboating photographer who lives in Brick and will shoot the event for the third year in a row. “Beyond being a great fundraiser, this day is a celebration of the SUDS program.
“Nick’s company has a small fleet of trucks dedicated to SUDS,” he continued. “The leasing customer donates one dollar per day extra per truck and Acuri APN Leasing matches it.”
Last year’s event raised $78,000 for the SUDS program. Powerboat owners interested in providing rides for the event should contact Nick Arcuri at 908-770-5105.
