The Tampa, Fla.-based director of communications for Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore, Cole McGowan is taking on a new role in addition to his current duties with the stateside arm of the organization. McGowan recently earned his yacht broker’s license and will join the broker roster at Suncoast Powerboat and Yacht Brokerage based in Sarasota, Fla., his original hometown.
Retaining his current position with Powerboat P1, Cole McGowan is joining Suncoast Powerboat and Yacht Brokerage.
The 24-year-old McGowan began his professional journey as a teenager with the Lucas Oil Silverhook, where he worked with the offshore racing team’s Nigel Hook and Janet Wilson in various positions involving communications and public relations. He followed that up with a communications/social media management role with the Miss GEICO offshore racing team.
In 2021, McGowan covered much of the regular offshore racing season for speedonthewater.com as a contributing correspondent.
“I’m excited to put my experience in the powerboat industry to use in a new setting,” he said. “In every position I’ve held, I’ve developed long-lasting and meaningful relationships with boat owners, manufacturers and industry professionals. Suncoast Powerboats is a specialized firm that caters to the area of the industry where I’ve had the most exposure, so this joint venture was a natural fit.”
In February, McGowan joined Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore, which is headquartered in London. He will continue in his current role with the organization, which produced the 2022 American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and is handling production chores for this weekend’s Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix. (The P1 Offshore group also will produce the St. Pete Grand Prix, September 2-4, in Southwest Florida.)
Captured here with Class 1 345 Racing team throttleman Miles Jennings, McGowan competed in the 60th Anniversary Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race—a 220-mile offshore contest in the United Kingdom—in 2021.
A marine industry veteran, Suncoast Powerboats founder Scott Ryerson said he’s looking forward to having McGowan on board.
“Cole brings unique experience from his background in marketing and powerboat racing that will serve the brokerage and our clients well,” he said “This is a unique moment in the market, and we are well positioned to assist both buyers and sellers through our array of services. Cole will be key in helping us tell that story and reach new clientele.”
