Poker Runs America and Outerlimits Customers Planning Mike Fiore Memorial Poker Run

Friends of Mike Fiore, the founder of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats who died after a high-speed powerboating accident in August 2014, and Poker Runs America are joining together to host a special tribute fundraiser and three-day boating weekend to benefit The Michael Fiore Children Foundation in support of his children, Sophia, Jett and Moxie. The event is scheduled for July 31 to August 2 at Trenton Marine Center of Toms River, N.J., according to a press release from poker-run organization founded by Bill Taylor, a longtime friend of the Fiore family.

Said Bill Taylor: “This phenomenon would never have been as popular as it is today without the support of Mike Fiore (at center) and his family.”

Outerlimits clients and friends Pete Mazzo, Johnny O’Loughlin, Jerry Tipton and Dennis Kelliher of Trenton Marine Center of Tom’s River, Bob Christie, Tom Healey of Marine Unlimited, as well as Taylor and his son, Todd, of PRA, were instrumental in planning an event to honor Fiore and support his foundation. The event will feature a full day of activities on and off the water.

“Mike and the Fiore family realized my vision early on in the development of the poker run concept,” said Taylor, the president of Poker Runs America, in the release. “They supported my vision 100 percent and are still doing it today, nearly 30 years later. This is a ‘must to attend’ event and I invite everyone to join in to honor Mike. This phenomenon would never have been as popular as it is today without the support of Mike Fiore and his family.”

The run is open to boats of all shapes and sizes (cruisers and performance). Unlike traditional poker run events, participants can even enter with an automobile or a truck. Participants can arrive by air, land or sea. As many as 20 to 30 Outerlimits powerboats are expected to take part in the event.

As Trenton Marine Center of Toms River recently completed an expansive restoration at its facility, the event couldn’t have been held at a better time, according to the release. The facility recently completed expansive restoration to include excellent docking, two travel lifts, secure parking and boat storage, fuel, plus several additional amenities.

The poker run kicks off Friday afternoon with registration (that starts at noon) at Trenton Marine Center of Tom’s River, followed by a meet-and-greet reception and dinner in the evening. The event continues Saturday morning with a breakfast/driver’s meeting (where cards No. 1 and No. 2 will be picked up), followed by an action-packed day that includes running 60 miles to Atlantic City’s opulent Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino for a luncheon, highlighted with a special Poker Runs America video presentation to honor Fiore’s life and accomplishments.

The run continues in the afternoon with a raft/swim on Barnegat Bay, before returning to Trenton Marine Center of Tom’s River for the final card, Saturday night BBQ and awards ceremony.

There will be two courses during the event to include open-ocean running or cruising the ICW.

“The event has been in progress for quite sometime,” said Kelliher of Trenton Marine Center. “We all agreed that this is a great thing to do to honor Mike and raise proceeds for the foundation. With the confliction of dates of other events, it finally came together and it’s going to be pretty spectacular on Barnegat Bay.”

“Registration fees include entry for the driver and navigator, docking and parking, use of Trenton Marine of Tom’s River’s travel lift, and helicopter coverage,” added Taylor. “Also included is breakfast Saturday morning, dinner Friday, a BBQ Saturday night, a luncheon at the Golden Nugget Casino, special prizes and awards, event T-shirts, plus a special feature in Poker Runs America magazine and an event DVD. As an exclusive token, a Mike Fiore memorial plaque will also be provided for all the drivers.”

The list of long-time friends and family already committed to participating in the event include performance boating enthusiasts Bob Russell, Frank and Jenine D’agostino, Paul and Diane Fiore, plus several other key players in the performance boating community and industry..
