“You know it’s a great race when the excitement continues for days,” wrote LakeExpo.com’s Nathan Bechtold in his story today following up on last weekend’s Lake Race on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks.

According to Bechtold’s story, which you can read here, after official review, the Cat Can Do/American Ethanol team has been declared by Offshore Powerboat Association to be the winners of the Extreme class at the 2017 Lake Race. Lake Race Director Mike Shepherd confirmed the change on Monday afternoon.
It was a photo-finish, Shepherd explained, and while the OPA official on site declared Alex and Ani to be the winner of Saturday’s Extreme-class race, a closer look revealed the crippled Cat Can Do/American Ethanol Skater Powerboats catamaran beat the Alex and Ani Platinum catamaran across the finish line.
With the two powerful MTIs—Wake Effects and CMS 3—dropping out early with mechanical issues, Cat Can Do/American Ethanol maintained a healthy lead over Alex and Ani for most of the race. But on the final lap, one of Cat Can Do/American Ethanol’s Sterling Performance engines ran out of fuel. The boat limped toward the finish line and Alex and Ani put the throttles down, seeing an unexpected chance to win.
