On assignment for RiverDavesPlace.com, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.-based photographer Tom Leigh of Tommy Gun Images happened to be at the right place at the right time with a couple of key people to get some amazing pictures of this year’s BlueWater Resort & Casino Parker Enduro presented by RPM Racing Enterprises and Nick Rose Insurance Agency Inc.
The 2017 Parker Enduro included 33 entries and an amazing LeMans-style start. All photos by Tom Leigh/Tommy Gun Images
Thanks to Fred Young of Maverick Helicopter and Devin Wozencraft whose Southern California insurance agency Wozencraft Insurance sponsored the helicopter, Leigh was able to get his first aerial perspective of the historic race in Parker, Ariz., and boy are the images featured above and in the slideshow below cool to look at.
As for the race that took place Saturday, Oct. 28, following four hours of intense competition on the 6-mile course along the Parker River, the Team Integral Products No. 48 team of Greg Foster and Alan Stoker driving John Roth’s Mercury-powered Stoker Boats modified VP hull earned the victory and the “King of the River” title.
Foster, who is one of the most decorated drivers in Formula 1 tunnel boat history and a past Modified VP champion, partnered with Stoker—a former national and world champion in Modified VP and the founder of Stoker Boats—to survive the race and leave Parker as this year’s champion.

The annual race, which featured 33 entries from all areas of the sport, including flat bottoms, mod VP outboards, inboard-powered V-bottoms and jet boats, features a cool LeMans-style start with all entrants lined up on the banks of the Colorado River waiting for the flag to drop.
Getting to see the start as well as more of the action from Leigh’s perspective is a nice change of pace. If you want to check out more of his images, click here.
