Super Boat International has scrubbed its upcoming offshore race August 21-23 in Pensacola, Fla. The news was announced yesterday in a brief press release on the racing organization’s website. A lack of local funding support reportedly forced the cancellation.

“The (local) producer of the event was unable to secure the needed support and funding from the community,” the release stated.
Added to the SBI schedule in 2014, the event attracted 17 boats last year was part of a “back-to-back” racing package that included a race less than 30 miles away in Orange Beach, Ala., two days earlier. Almost all of the same teams competed in both events.
Next up on the SBI schedule is the July 30-August 2 event in Michigan City, Ind. It will be followed the National Championships Sept. 25-27 in Clearwater, Fla., and the annual World Championships Nov. 8-15 in Key West, Fla.
