For its 2018 World Championships Nov. 14-18 in Englewood Beach, Fla., the Offshore Powerboat Association is offering a new—and potentially profitable—wrinkle for its competitors. OPA will award $1,000 to the team with “Best Pit Display” during the event.

“We did it once before in Atlantic City and it made the pit area much nicer,” said Ed “Smitty” Smith, the head of the organization. “The teams really put some effort into it in Atlantic City.”
According to an OPA press release, judging will be based on “the most creative and impressive” display. “Judging will not be based on existing pit stall presentation—you’ll need to bring something new,” the release stated.
For the winning team to receive the award, its throttleman and driver must be present at the Sunday evening awards ceremony.
According to the release, all teams will be required to display the American flag, as well as already requisite OPA Racing flag, in their dry pit areas this year during the Englewood Beach event.
