Just got off the phone with Terry Sobo, the director of sales and marketing for Nor-Tech Performance Boats in Cape Coral, Fla. Sobo said that Nor-Tech’s second 80-foot-long performance yacht, tagged the “Super 80 Roadster” should be ready for its first sea trial in about four weeks.
“It is completely different from the first Nor-Tech 80 because the top deck is completely open,” said Sobo. “It is the ultimate go-fast performance cruiser with lots of outside seating outside, which makes it great for entertaining.”
Power for the 80-footer is provided by twin 1,900-hp turbocharged Caterpillar diesel engines. Sobo estimates the top speed of the boat will be 65 to 75 mph.
Not exactly light on interior frills, the Super 80 Roadster has three cabins. The master stateroom forward is outfitted with a king-size bed, an ultra-leather lounge, a flat-screen television, a computer station and its own bathroom with a full-size shower. The two guest staterooms also have their own complete bathrooms, while the salon has a “day” bathroom without a shower. Naturally, the salon area includes a full galley and an entertainment center with, said Sobo, “flat-screen TVs everywhere.”
But the big design draw of the new Super 80 Roadster is its open deck layout.
“Other than maybe a big Magnum, it really has no competition,” said Sobo, who added that Nor-Tech could probably produce no more than two 80-footers per year.
The first Super 80 Roadster is headed for “a loyal Nor-Tech buyer” in Sarasota, Fla. Beyond that, Sobo offered no detail on whom that lucky buyer might be.
