nortech 45bAlthough the boat wasn’t “finished,” the new 450 Sport CC from Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats was one of the major highlights of the 2016 Miami International Boat Show. Powered by five Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines, the 45-foot center console was delivered to the show on Thursday afternoon and has been coming and going from the docks ever since on demo rides.

“The reaction to the new 45 has been great,” said Terry Sobo, Nor-Tech’s sales and marketing manager. “We were a little concerned with how it would be received because the boat isn’t completely finished, but people keep telling me how incredible it is.

“We tested it quick on the river by our shop before we brought it over here so we didn’t get a real-world sea trial, but everyone who has been in it and gone out in the bay has told me the ride is phenomenal,” he continued, adding that Nor-Tech has a few interior components to finish as well as adding the boat’s T-top. “Finishing the boat at this point is the easy part—if it didn’t run right, we’d have a big problem. But the hull is a home run and the power is incredible. We just have to finish this one and start cranking on the rest of the orders.”

Sobo, who was standing beside the company’s first 100-mph center console (read the story), said Nor-Tech has sold nine of the 45-footers already. He also was very upbeat about the show’s new venue on Virginia Key.

“Everything else is going well over here—the weather has smiled upon us and the people are showing up,” Sobo said. “We’re pretty excited about the new venue—it exceeded my expectations that’s for sure.”
