Directed by a longtime friend and business associate of Reggie Fountain, Jr., a video team is producing a documentary on the 85-year-old Fountain Powerboats founder in Washington, N.C. The producers are targeting a spring 2026 release.

It is not the first video chronicling the achievements of Fountain. But unlike the well-known “King of Offshore” production, the new video won’t focus on his racing accomplishments.

A new in-depth documentary on high-performance marine industry great Reggie Fountain, Jr.—captured here with former Fountain Powerboats chief operating officer Jeff Harris—is in production and scheduled for a spring 2026 release.

Instead, it will tell the story of Fountain as his flawed and fantastic self, his successes and failures, his amazing strengths and undeniable weaknesses, both personal and professional. From leading the high-performance V-bottom segment and building and selling 10,000 boats, to going bankrupt and losing his company. From failed marriages and indiscretions to sharing his later years with the true love of his love of his life, to the hot-and-cold relationships he’s had with his children.

“It’s going to be an unflinching look at Reggie Fountain, honest and real,” the director told me before I visited Washington last month and sat in front of the camera for more than two hours answering questions. “We want to celebrate the greatness of the Reggie, the human being, and what he accomplished despite his sometimes-challenging personal life.

“We are not pulling any punches,” he added. “And that is exactly what Reggie wants. So don’t hold back.”

I took him at his word and didn’t during my North Carolina visit. Based on the on-camera questions and the candor expected in my answers—and I’ve known Fountain since the early 1990s so I have a few high and low Reggie stories—I believe the new video will be the unvarnished tale of an imperfect yet remarkable human being.

Strike that. The new Reggie Fountain, Jr., video is going to be one hell of a ride.

“My dad is just a good Eastern North Carolina gentleman who in many ways is just like all of us,” Wyatt Fountain, Reggie Fountain, Jr.’s oldest son, explained. “Behind the high-profile businessman and winning tunnel-boat and offshore racer is a man who had ups and downs in other aspects of his life. This new video will cover those aspects and more. It’s deeper than ‘The King of Offshore.’

“It’s not about Reggie Fountain ‘the legend,'” he concluded. “It’s an in-depth biography of the man himself.”
