For Frank Borbely and Livia Chirico, who founded Power Boats New Roc in New Rochelle, N.Y., in 2014, the opportunity was just too good to pass up. You see Borbely, who owns a Cigarette Racing 38 Top Gun with twin 800-hp engines and has spent a lot of time in and around performance boats, has always wanted to go racing and he’d always admired the Michael Peters-designed Apache—the US-1 Warpaint built by Ontario Yachts.
Power Boats New Roc in New Rochelle, N.Y., is currently preparing its 40-foot Apache catamaran for the 2015 racing season.
So when the 40-foot catamaran, which was damaged during a violent crash at the 2011 Super Boat International Key West World Championships, went up for sale by Warpaint team owner Bob Vesper, who survived the crash with minor injuries (as did throttleman Danny Crank), Borbely jumped at the opportunity to own it. He welcomed the necessary repairs and modifications.
