A new Long Island, N.Y., powerboating event called the Charity Fun Run benefitting the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital serving Westchester County is being organized for Saturday, Sept. 9 by local powerboat enthusiast Salvatore Olivia. The inaugural event will be run out of Wright Island Marina, the host venue, in New Rochelle.

“The Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is a great asset to the Westchester County community,” said Olivia. “As boaters, we have such a passion for being on the water, and we love to get involved in as many different boating events as we can. A group of guys and I thought that if we could create an event that brings all the boaters and their families and friends together in an effort to turn our passion into something more that can benefit other people as well, it becomes a much more enjoyable experience.
“We have a large amount of participants volunteering, as well as many sponsors from local businesses, to turn this into a successful event,” he added. “The Wright Island Marina is hosting the event and has offered to donate food and refreshments.”
The entry fee is $200 per boat, according to the flyer for the event. For an additional $100, participants can sign up for helicopter video. Powerboat classes for the all-inclusive run are cruiser (20 mph to 40 mph), sportboat (40 mph to 60 mph) and performance boat (60 mph and faster). An awards ceremony and barbecue lunch is included in the entry fee (as are event T-shirts).
Olivia is asking interested powerboat owners to contact him by Sept. 2. He can be reached via email at [email protected] or phone at 914-393-1822.
