Mercury Racing Offering Three Scholarship Programs In 2023

Knowing that no one is born with the technical skills for a career in the high-performance marine industry, the decision-makers at Mercury Racing launched the Fond du Lac Wis., company’s  “Excellence in Trade” scholarship program five years ago and added its “Impact Institute” scholarship program three years later. New for 2023 is the company’s “Great Lakes Boat Building School Marine Technician” scholarship.

Mercury Racing opened applications for its 2023 scholarship programs and announced the latest addition to them through its blog yesterday. Here’s a quick look at each scholarship package:

Excellence In Trade—Open to high school students based near the company headquarters who plan to further their education in a skilled-trade-related field, this $5,000 scholarship is “intended to alleviate financial stress of post-secondary education while fueling the future of the local workforce.”

Impact Institute—This scholarship provides two $1,500 awards to students attending the Marine Service Technology program at the Impact Institute in Indiana. The program “provides classroom and lab experiences to prepare students for careers in the boating industry.” Students completing the two-year program earn their Marine Industry Certification and are eligible to earn entry level service certifications from Mercury, according to the blog post.

Marine Services Technician—This scholarship will provide two $1,500 awards to students enrolled in the Great Lakes Boat Building School Marine Service Technology program, which is “designed to prepare individuals for employment at marinas, marine dealerships, boat repair yards, marine manufacturing facilities and yacht clubs.” Upon completion of the program, students have completed 1,470 hours of instruction and are eligible for American Boat and Yacht Council certifications.
