Mercury Racing Debuts Mobile Marketing Vehicle at Shootout

With the liquid-mile speed runs just getting started this morning at the 2013 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, spectators streaming in to catch the action also will get their first view of the new Mercury Racing “mobile marketing vehicle” truck in the display area outside Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill—ground zero for the annual event. Roughly six months in the making, the new promotional truck features two flip-down display platforms, one that opens to showcase the new Mercury Racing 1650 Race engine, as well as a SmartCraft helm station with Livorsi controls and gauges, propeller and head cover exhibits and a historical “wall of fame” in the primary indoor area.

While flat-screen televisions running promo videos—and there are two in the new Mercury Racing truck—are standard fare for promo vehicles, refinished Brazilian hardwood flooring is not. Tad Whitten of Mercury Racing explained that floor choice for the vehicle

“We are not hardwood floor experts, but this is a nicer floor than you’d find in most people’s million-dollar homes,” Whitten said. “We wanted the vehicle to be reminiscent of some of the old engine shops. Back in the old shops, if you dropped a head or machine piece of equipment, you didn’t want it to land on a hard concrete floor. So they had wood flooring.

“But my favorite part is the exhibit of old pictures of the Black Knights with Bill Seebold and Reggie Fountain,” he continued. “We wanted to take people back into the old history of Mercury Racing, as well as showcase new products like the 1650 and 520 engines.”

Next stop for Mercury Racing’s mobile marketing truck is the 2013 Super Boat International Key West Offshore World Championships in November.
