Mentor Race Organizers Expecting Strong Turnout At Fan Friendly Venue

With less than two months to go before the Cleveland Construction Super Boat Grand Prix July 21-23, organizers in Mentor, Ohio, are expecting another strong turnout in what will be the second race of the 2017 Super Boat International season. Dubbed the “Roar Off The Shore,” the event will be held at Headlands Beach on the Lake Erie shore.

Organizers of the upcoming SBI event in Mentor, Ohio, are expecting large crowds on Headlands Beach and in the spectator fleet to catch the offshore racing action.

“We were extremely pleased with the turnout last year and we look to improve the fan experience this year,” said Shawn Zbasnik, the event director, in press release fro the organizers. “We’re working with Super Boat International to broadcast play-by-play of the race directly on the beach so fans can better follow the race. Fans can also enjoy food, a beer garden and entertainment between races on the beach.”

On Friday, fans will be able to check out the raceboats at no charge in the dry pits at the Great Lakes Mall. The venue will feature food and entertainment from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In addition to Tony Sacco’s Coal Oven Pizza and Chick-Fil-A, which have locations inside the mall, the popular Manna, Stone Pelican, River Dog, Flamingo Jacks, and Fawaky Burst food trucks will be in the pits.

Raceboat testing is scheduled for Saturday—the boats will launch from the wet pits at Mentor Lagoons Beach—and the organizers are encouraging fans to catch the action from Headlands Beach. The Headlands BeachFest, which “celebrates wind, water and sand, creating an incredible event on Ohio’s longest beach,” also is on tap that day.

For Sunday’s races on the 4.1-mile course, fans on the beach will have unobstructed views of the action—and the live SBI coverage will be broadcasted speakers throughout the venue. According to the release, the organizers are expecting more than 20 raceboats.

Admission to the event is free. Parking passes to Headlands Beach cost $10 per car and can be purchased in advance at the Great Lakes Mall dry pits.
