Major Sponsors Help Propel Shootout Donations to Record Level

Thanks to a record-setting $175,000 in donations raised by the 27th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and the lengthy list of activities leading up to this year’s two-day top-speed showcase, the event has donated nearly $750,000 since Ron Duggan and company at Captain Ron’s in Sunrise Beach, Mo., took over in 2008.

“We’re so excited to announce that this year we’re donating $50,000 more than we did in 2014,” said Duggan, who attributed the jump to several factors, including an increase in registration fees, poker run participation, T-shirt sales and donations from the auction at Performance Boat Center, but primarily gave credit to the event’s major sponsors. “Having a title sponsor like Performance Boat Center on board provided a major boost for us, and not just from a dollar standpoint. The facility is top notch and the crew works so hard to take care of the racers and spectators who bring their boats from all over for this event. Brett (Manire) and the guys also participate in everything we do, including running boats in the Shootout.”

Duggan also pointed to the generous donation of the event’s second-largest sponsor, Showcase Publishing, which has published the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Program for the last three years.

For the last three years, Showcase Publishing has handled the top-quality programs for the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout.

“Having Dave Leathers and his company handle the program is a big reason we’ve stepped up our fundraising,” Duggan said. “Before Showcase got involved, we were lucky if we raised a few thousand dollars with our program. This year Dave and his wife, Megan, wrote us a check for $30,000. Next year it’ll be more and it’ll increase the following year—that’s how our deal is structured.”

Leathers said he’s proud to be a part of what’s arguably the biggest charitable event benefitting the Lake of the Ozarks community.

“Besides the title sponsor, of course, we’re honored to be the largest contributor to the event,” Leathers said. “I don’t think there’s an event at the lake that reaches more charities than the Shootout, which is why we’ve invested so much time, money and energy into its program. With more than 30 years of publishing experience, we’ve been able to raise the bar considerably—so much so that I don’t know of any boating events with anything like it.”

Duggan said he has his sights set on $200,000 in donations in 2016 with a lofty goal of $250,000 in donations the following year. “We can do it,” he added. “We set that goal several years ago and I feel like it’s within reach.”
