According to a Facebook post from the organizers of the wildly popular Tickfaw 200 Poker Run hosted by Blood River Landing in Springfield, La., this year’s event scheduled for April 29-May 2 has been cancelled.
“Due to circumstances beyond our control, the 2020 Tickfaw 200 Poker Run is canceled,” the post read. “We do not have a rescheduled date for the foreseeable future at this time. Thank you to all the people who have helped us this year. The local charities, businesses, community members and the Tickfaw 200 will miss all of you.
“All prepaid poker hands will be honored for 2021 along with a free additional hand if you sign up in 2021,” the post continued. “All sponsors that have paid also will be honored for 2021.”
A longtime member of the organizing committee, Casey Harrison was saddened to have to make the announcement. In a text on Friday, Harrison told speedonthewater.com that all local event permits were pulled through mid-April and the foreseeable future.
“Even if the limits on the number of people at gatherings was lifted after April 13, which we don’t envision happening, we’re unsure we’d even be able to everything back on track,” he said. “Then there’s the law enforcement, the businesses and the people in this community that would need some time to get back on their feet so cancelling the poker run makes the most sense at this time.
“We look forward to seeing everyone back at the Tickfaw 200 in 2021 to support the charities and businesses that have supported this event for so long,” he added.
